SugarlandThe upcoming 2012 Tour will be an interactive "In Your Hands" Tour! The tour will rely solely on YOUR requests to determine the set list played in each city.
“This year's tour is based around the concept of putting the show into the hands of the fans,” said Jennifer. “THEY will make the requests that will help form the set list and guide the show. Through texts, handwritten signs, the Internet (Twitter, Facebook, etc) phone calls made during the show and selections directly from the stage, the fans will become the conductors as well as the audience. If it's on one of our records or if we've played it on a stage it is fair game.” Sugarland has reached over 15 million in worldwide sales and achieved eight #1 singles since exploding onto the music scene in ‘04 with Twice The Speed Of Life. Enjoy the Ride quickly followed in ’06 and Love On The Inside in ’08, which skyrocketed them to superstardom. Sugarland has co-written all tracks from all three albums and co-produced the last two. Live On The Inside, a CD/DVD set, and Gold And Green, a holiday collection, both debuted in ’09. In 2010 The Incredible Machine was released (also co-written and co-produced by the duo) at #1 on the US Billboard 200 chart and to date has sold over 1.2 million copies. They've received trophies from the Grammys, AMA’s, ACM, CMT and CMA awards. Nettles has performed at the Kennedy Center Honors with musical tributes to Bruce Springsteen and Neil Diamond and the duo has collaborated live with heavy-hitters like Adele, Rihanna and Lady Gaga among others. They have been seen all over the media spectrum with appearances on Oprah, Good Morning America, Ellen, CNN Heroes, Chelsea Lately and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Sugarland has performed in numerous European countries and have headlined multiple U.S. tours that continue to sell out venues across the country.
It has been a joyful 9 years for Jennifer and Kristian. Since they huddled over cups of coffee in an Atlanta Starbucks and scratched out career goals for themselves, they’ve evolved in every way musically possible. Now they’ve managed to seamlessly blend bits of the sounds they love, the sounds that inspired them to become fans of music, into their latest album. A wail from R.E.M., a soulful vocal from Janis Joplin, and a throwback to Appalachian instrumentation gives every song momentum and increases the turn-it-up quotient of the entire 50 minutes of music. And will ultimately turn Sugarland’s third album into country’s latest tour de force.
In April 2011, Sugarland began their own radio station, which was launched by A.P.E. Radio. The station is programmed by Nettles and Bush, and gives fans the opportunity to hear experiences from both singers' lives and from their current musical endeavors.
The duo appeared at the 2011 CMT Music Awards, winning for "Duo Video of the Year" but losing to Taylor Swift's "Mine" for video of the year. They also performed their donation song "Stand Up".
The duo recorded the song "Run" with Matt Nathanson on his album, "Modern Love," Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles paired with Pepsi MAX and recorded a commercial for Super Bowl XLVI. Jennifer recorded Hank Williams' "Your Cheatin' Heart" which is featured in the commercial as a Coke Zero delivery man tries to buy a Pepsi Max without being discovered.
Sugarland recorded a song for the 2012 movie, Act of Valor. The soundtrack to the movie is set to be released on February 21, 2012. The song is titled "Guide You Home". Kristian confirmed in late January that Sugarland will be touring in "mid to late Spring" and that they're "going to source our fans for our set list." But is credited individually on the track.
Did You Know? In 2011 Jennifer Nettles married Justin Miller, a former model who appeared in the video for the band's 2006 single "Want To".
Canaan SmithPossessing a distinctive voice that combines a breezy cool vibe with heart-on-his-sleeve emotional honesty, Canaan Smith has emerged as one of country music’s most compelling new artists. Behind his easy-going boy next door charm lies an accomplished storyteller equally gifted at romantic ballads, up tempo anthems and poignant slice of life songs that convey universal truths
“It’s all about the stories,” Canaan says when asked about his love of country music. “You can listen to a country song and it will raise the hair on your arms. I’m a people person and I love being able to connect with people. I’ve always admired the way my heroes made real connections with country fans; I want to follow in their footsteps.”
Canaan learned an appreciation for all styles of music growing up in Williamsburg, Va. “I grew up listening to music in general and that included every genre, from the hardest rock to the twangiest country,” he says. “I have video recordings of me singing George Strait songs to my mom and also fond memories of my dad and I head-banging in the car to Rage Against the Machine. I was a skateboarder, basketball player, horseback rider and I wanted to be a cowboy.”
Did You Know? Canaan was writing and performing around Music City when he was recruited to compete on the hit television reality show “The Amazing Race.”
